The U13 Boys representing WCFC were victorious at the Mequon Fall Cup (10/17
- 10/18) bringing home the Championship Troophy. On
Saturday WCFC was matched up against Whitefish
Bay Blue with kickoff at 11:30am. Coach Desmond was excited for
this match because the U13 Boys would be playing Whitefish Bay Blue again for
league play on
October 25th to end the season. It was a great opportunity to size
them up for our final game. After 50 minutes of play the game ended in a 1
to 1 tie. WFB Blue had won their first match that day and lead in points
12 to 4. WCFC's next match was at 2:45 against another league opponent,
the Cedarburg Strikers, whom they defeted earlier in the season. WCFC had
to win by a score of 2-0 or by 3 goals if no shut out to guarentee advancement
into the Semi-Finals. The U13 Boys dominated the Cedarburg game in
possession and finished with a 2 - 0 win and sending them to the Semis against
the Division Wildcard 1 team. Both goals were scored by Mitch Noreen, with
an assist from Jacob Lee.
The Wildcard team that they played Sunday
morning turned out to be Whitefish Bay Blue, finishing just 1 point
behind WCFC. This match was again very close. With a score of 0 - 0
lasting all the way until the 45th minute when WCFC's Drew Schroeder sent a
cross to Josh Baumgardner who scored with a one touch shot. Less than two
minutes later it was Josh Baumgardner again picking up a loose ball in the box
sending in the second and final goal of the game advancing WCFC to the Finals.
WCFC will play this team for the third time Saturday
10/25 and it promises to be a very good, very close match.
The Final match was played against Rapid Kickers Co-Ed.
The match was dominated early by WCFC's possession. Rapid Kickers played
defensively during most of the match thwarting WCFC's scoring attempts with a
solid exhibition of the offsides trap. After another 50 nail-biting
minutes the match ended, 0 - 0. The championship match would be decided in
a shoot-out.
With Drew Schroeder in the goal, Coach Desmond selected Mitch Noreen (F), Trevor
Blaize (D), Connor Gutjahr (M), Chirstopher Beine (M) and Ryan Schellinger (D)
to shoot. Blaize, Gutjahr and Beine scored while Schroeder in his first
shoot-out made three saves and finished the shoot-out with no goals scored
against him. Final score
after 4: WCFC 3, Rapid Kickers 0.
Congratulations to WCFC U13 Boys, Mequon Fall Cup Champions.
